Illinois VINE Covers Cass Records
Illinois calls the service Victim Information and Notification Everyday. It serves crime victims and concerned citizens who want custody, transfer, court-case, and release-status notices from participating sources. Search and registration are available through Illinois VINELink or by phone at (866) 566-8439. IDOC says phone support operates around the clock in more than 200 languages.
Cass County has no county jail. Its sheriff does not publish a roster or feed that VINE can simply mirror as a “Cass County Jail” source. After a Cass arrest, first ask the Cass Sheriff's Office which outside jail physically received the person. Then look for that source in VINE. Coverage for a particular Cass-related record must be checked live or by phone.
VINE also receives Illinois custody or court information, but research does not establish that every possible outside jail record appears. A missing result can reflect spelling, source coverage, lag, or a restricted record. It is not proof of release.
Search Cass County VINELink Records
Begin with the most precise identifiers available. A full name alone can produce several people. Add a first name, ID, county, facility, or other filter offered by the current interface. Because the actual custodian may sit outside Cass County, do not reject a match solely because the source facility is elsewhere.
- Open Illinois VINELink and choose the person or custody search.
- Enter at least the last name, then add available identifiers.
- Compare the displayed name, ID, age or birth information, source, and facility.
- Open only the record that matches the intended person.
- Read custody status, facility, date, and event wording exactly.
- If no source appears, call VINE and ask whether the known receiving facility participates.

Cass County VINE Release Fields
The exact fields vary by source. The key task is to connect each event to the agency that supplied it. A result that expressly says released and gives a date corroborates departure from that source. It does not always show whether the person entered the community or transferred to another agency.

A VINE notification is not a certified release sheet. Save the event label, date, source, and identifier. Then ask the source for its release or transfer record. If the source says transfer, follow the next agency instead of describing the person as free from all custody.
“Not found” does not mean released. Search variations, confirm the physical custodian, and check the Cass court docket or IDOC record.
Register Cass County Release Alerts
Registration begins on the matching person record, not on an unrelated name. The current action may read “Register for Notifications” or similar language. Available channels are telephone, text, email, and the VINE mobile app. Complete the confirmation required for the chosen channel.

- Select its notification-registration action.
- Choose phone, text, email, or app.
- Provide the contact details requested by the live service.
- Complete the link, code, prompt, or other channel confirmation.
- Save confirmation and keep contact information current.
If the automated telephone flow requests a PIN, create and retain the PIN shown by the current prompt. Official static material does not confirm one universal PIN length, so a fixed number of digits should not be assumed. The PIN may be needed to acknowledge or stop calls.
IDOC Victim Services can assist at (877) 776-0755 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, but IDOC does not run VINE and cannot access registration data supplied to it.
Cass County VINE Alert Meanings
Read each alert as a dated report from a named source. A “release” event, “transfer,” escape, return to custody, or court change has a different meaning. Preserve the notice instead of relying on memory. If the result conflicts with the agency, call both the source and VINE support.
For a Cass arrest, compare the alert with the outside jail's admission and exit timestamps and the Cass court order. A signed order establishes legal authority but may precede physical processing. Other warrants or a detainer may also change the destination. When exact timing matters for a legal process, obtain the official transaction record.
For an Illinois prisoner, compare VINE with the IDOC person record. Projected Parole Date is not an actual release. Last Paroled Date and current status provide stronger confirmation after the event. A person may leave prison for mandatory supervised release and remain under IDOC authority.
Two Illinois Notification Systems
Illinois VINE and Illinois Prisoner Review Board victim registration are distinct services. Enrollment in one does not enroll a person in the other. VINE serves victims and concerned citizens with participating-source custody and court alerts. PRB victim registration applies to eligible registered victims and offers a separate set of IDOC and board notices.
PRB notices can address parole, mandatory supervised release, electronic detention, work release, furlough, escape and apprehension, death, discharge orders, and certain eligibility events. A person following an IDOC case should consider the proper service based on eligibility and the events needed, without treating the two registrations as interchangeable.
Cass County VINELink Limits
VINELink does not track federal Bureau of Prisons inmates. For a federal sentence, use the BOP Inmate Locator and read the exact “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” result. That only shows departure from BOP custody. A detainer, immigration custody, local custody, or federal supervision may still follow.
VINE is also not a complete historical archive. A Cass case may predate online court indexing, use a different spelling, be confidential, or have been sealed or expunged. For pre-1998 Cass court matters, the Circuit Clerk's book index may be needed. Restricted matters should not be reconstructed by guesswork.
Illinois State Police registries are separate again. A registry entry confirms a registration record, not an exact custody-release date. Many released people have no registration duty, so absence from a registry proves nothing about release.
When Cass County Searches Miss
A miss across VINE, IDOC, and the online Cass docket still does not settle custody status. The person may be held by an outside jail whose source is not known, listed under a different spelling, or involved in a case that is too old for the clerk's computer index. The matter could also belong to a federal or immigration system. Start again with source identification rather than adding more broad name searches.
For a recent Cass arrest, ask the sheriff for the receiving custodian and any transfer or booking identifier. Search that facility's official system, then return to VINE with the exact source name. For an older court matter, ask the Cass Circuit Clerk whether the pre-1998 book index applies. If IDOC commitment appears in the court record, search by IDOC number or birthdate instead of relying only on a surname.
Sealed, expunged, juvenile, impounded, and confidential records have access limits. Respect those boundaries. Do not treat the absence of a public record as a reason to infer or reconstruct a custody event.
Confirm Cass County VINE Releases
Follow a VINE alert back to its source. If it came from an outside jail, request that jail's release or transfer sheet. If it came from IDOC, compare the actual date and current status. If it concerned a Cass court event, obtain the signed order and then check whether the physical custodian completed release.
The Cass County released inmate search gives the full fallback chain: identify the actual custodian through Cass Sheriff, search or call that agency, check VINE, inspect the Cass docket, and request a narrow written record when needed. This is more reliable than treating roster absence or an alert alone as final proof.
